Equipment in Use

  • Two Canon 750D cameras on tripods
  • PixaPro floodlight
  • One coloured floor light
  • Torso mannequin wearing a football shirt
  • High chair

Hazard Identification & Control Measures

1. Trip Hazards (Tripods, Cables, Lighting Stands)

  • Risk: Tripping over tripod legs, light stands, or trailing cables
  • Severity: Medium
  • Control Measures:
    • Ensure cables are neatly taped down using gaffer tape
    • Position tripods away from walkways
    • Clearly brief all participants before recording
    • Maintain clear access routes

2. Electrical Equipment & Overheating (Lights & Cameras)

  • Risk: Electric shock, overheating, or fire hazard
  • Severity: High
  • Control Measures:
    • All equipment to be PAT tested (if applicable)
    • Do not overload plug sockets
    • Switch off lights when not in use
    • Allow adequate ventilation despite curtain setup
    • Keep flammable materials away from lights

3. Lighting Hazards (Bright & Floor-Level Lighting)

  • Risk: Eye strain, burns from hot lights, accidental contact with floor light
  • Severity: Medium
  • Control Measures:
    • Warn participants not to touch lights
    • Position floor light away from foot traffic
    • Use diffusers if necessary
    • Regularly check temperature of lighting units

4. Manual Handling (Moving Equipment & Mannequin)

  • Risk: Muscle strain or injury when lifting cameras, tripods, lights, or mannequin
  • Severity: Medium
  • Control Measures:
    • Use correct lifting techniques
    • Ask for assistance when moving heavier items
    • Set up equipment slowly and carefully

5. Stability of Equipment & Props

  • Risk: Cameras, lights, mannequin, or highchair falling over
  • Severity: High
  • Control Measures:
    • Ensure tripods are fully extended and locked
    • Sandbag light stands if available
    • Position mannequin securely and away from edges
    • Ensure highchair is stable and level

6. Restricted Space & Curtains

  • Risk: Reduced visibility, overheating, restricted exits
  • Severity: Medium
  • Control Measures:
    • Ensure clear entry and exit points at all times
    • Avoid blocking exits with curtains or equipment
    • Take regular breaks to prevent overheating
    • Keep curtains secured to avoid collapse

Emergency Procedures

  • In case of fire: Switch off power if safe, evacuate immediately, follow building fire procedures
  • In case of injury: Stop filming, provide first aid, seek further assistance if required

Final Assessment

With the above control measures in place, the interview recording can be carried out safely with low residual risk.
